Canada Revenue Agency Re-Assesses Income From CIMS
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has audited Canadian Industrial Mill Services (CIMS) and made the decision that all tax free travel allowances should be included in taxable income because the company could not prove that people did not travel together. This triggered re-assessments of all members employed by CIMS in all years going back to 2014. This may also trigger a debt owed billing from Employment Insurance and possibly a clawback of GST Rebates for yourself or spouse. Please contact the union hall as soon as possible if you have received any notices related to hours with CIMS or for any other company that have caused you to have your taxes reassessed. We will forward you the notice and instructions on how we can help you object to the re-assessments.
